ADBUSTERS TACTICAL BRIEFING #26: Anarchic Swarms – The Emerging Model

Hey you wild cats, dreamers, redeemers, horizontals,

The stage is set for a climactic showdown in Chicago.

The crisis of capitalism is deepening. Youth unemployment has reached 50% in Spain and Greece… 30% in Portugal and Italy… 22% in the UK… almost 20% in the US. Hundreds of millions of people around the world are waking up to the fact that their future does not compute… that their lives will be a never ending series of ecological, financial, political and personal crises… and that if we don’t rise up and start fighting for a different kind of future, we won’t have a future.

That struggle ignites again May 1.

#OCCUPYCHICAGO will be the focal point of this global spiritual insurrection… 50,000 of us will converge on the windy city and confront the G8 and NATO leaders with an ultimatum. We will set up impromptu encampments throughout the city and wage a full-spectrum memewar backed up by new tactics of anarchic swarming. Our militant in-your-face nonviolence will inspire thousands of towns, cities and campuses around the world to rise up in solidarity just like they did last October.

This is a worldwide, multi-front mutiny against the way our economic and military leaders are running the world.

On the CULTURAL FRONT we confront the corpo-commercial lie machine – we shift the way information flows and meaning is produced. We train a new breed of livestreamers, citizen journos and p2p visionaries and unleash them in the streets to be the eyes of the world during the month of May.

On the ENVIRONMENTAL FRONT we demand the G8 reach consensus on drastically reducing their carbon footprints and immediately ratifying a binding international accord on climate change.

On the ECONOMIC FRONT we throw our movement’s weight behind one simple demand: the implementation of a 1% Robin Hood Tax on all financial transactions and currency trades.

On the GEOPOLITICAL FRONT we tell Obama, Cameron, Sarkozy, Putin, Merkel, Noda, Monti, Harper and the NATO military leaders to stop the warmongering and start fighting for peace. We block the looming Iran war with a preemptive global initiative that just about everyone in the world can get behind: a nuclear-free world starting with a nuclear-free Middle East that includes both Israel and Iran.

On the PERSONAL FRONT, hundreds of millions of us vow to live the month of May without dead time… to experience joyous camaraderie… to open ourselves to an imminent life changing epiphany. We follow Miles Davis’ advice on how to play jazz: be spontaneously alive and “play what’s not there.”

Occupy has taught us all. It innovates, fractures, grows resilient and more diverse. In this spirit we celebrate the Gandhian ferocity of the Zuccottis who launched this movement with their magical assemblies and nonviolent ways … we extol the growing crop of working groups with their desire for a positive program of social and political change. And on the wild side we honor those in Oakland who have lost their fear against all odds. With this rainbow coalition, we hold our heads high and embrace the heady days of Spring.

Jammers pack your tents, phone your friends, get your affinity groups together and prepare to put your ass on the line for a worldwide people’s uprising starting May 1.

for the wild,

#OCCUPYWALLSTREET Tactical Briefing Tuesday, September 13, 2011 6:40 PM From: “Adbusters Magazine”

#OCCUPYWALLSTREETPosters by Kevin VancioHey you jammers, dreamers, patriots and revolutionaries out there,

What will happen this Saturday when thousands of us descend on Lower Manhattan and start walking towards Wall Street?

If the police try to stop us, how will we respond?

This is what happened in Madrid last month when the Spanish government tried to stop people from gathering in the Puerta del Sol, site of the people’s encampment:

“All day long, 300 police officers kept the square hermetically sealed off, even closing the Sol metro station – one of the largest and most important in the city … When the protesters realized they couldn’t take the square, they quickly dissolved into a dozen side-streets and regrouped on a number of key locations … For hours now, protesters have been blocking all the main traffic arteries in the city center … Tens of thousands of indignados have brought Madrid to a complete standstill in a spontaneous and defiant bid to reclaim Puerta del Sol … The mass protest is now reported to be headed back towards Sol for a second time, in another attempt to take back the square.”
Jérôme E. Roos

If the police block us temporarily from occupying Wall Street, then let’s turn all of lower Manhattan into our Tahrir Square. Let’s sing our songs in the lobby of Goldman Sachs and in Chase Manhattan Plaza; let’s wave our signs outside the SEC and the Federal Reserve; let’s convene our people’s assemblies around the Charging Bull statue at Bowling Green … and if need be, let’s set up our encampments in nearby Battery Park and other places until we’re ready to walk into Wall Street again …

Anything can and will happen this Saturday. That’s the beauty of it! Ultimately, the only thing that matters in how many of us turn up eager to be a part of a spontaneous creative swarm and determined to bring the financial fraudsters to justice.

Bring signs, flowers, food and a revolutionary mood … and a commitment to absolute nonviolence in the Gandhian tradition.

for the wild,
Culture Jammers HQ

PS.

The S17 meme is rumbling all over the world now … Milan, Madrid, Valencia, London, Lisbon, Athens, San Francisco, Santander, Madison, Amsterdam, Los Angeles and now Algeria and Israel are all on board! Could this be the beginning of a new global economic order?

Update on ILLINOIS HB 30 The Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act

Medical Marijuana Legislation Reintroduced in Illinois Legislature
Urge Your Representative to Support HB 30!

Legislation that seeks to legalize the physician-supervised use of medical marijuana has been reintroduced in the Illinois legislature.

House Bill 30,, allows qualified patients to possess and consume marijuana for medical purposes.

In the previous session, similar legislation was approved by the Senate but was narrowly defeated by the House.

Members of the House Rules Committee voted in favor of an amended version of HB 30 on Wednesday, March 9th. The revised version of the bill removes the language that previously sought to provide qualified patients with the legal option to cultivate personal use amounts of medical marijuana at home.

While NORML finds aspects of the amended version of HB 30 unduly restrictive, particularly its exclusion of home cultivation, its passage will ensure that certain authorized medical marijuana patients will no longer have to fear arrest or prosecution from state law enforcement.

Fifteen states Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington and the District of Columbia have enacted laws protecting medical marijuana patients from state prosecution.

********************************************************************

Legislation that seeks to legalize the physician-supervised use of medical cannabis passed the House Healthcare Availability and Access Committee and is now waiting for a floor vote from the Illinois House of Representatives.

House Bill 30, the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, allows qualified patients to possess and grow cannabis for medical purposes.  Please contact your State Representative and State Senator and urge them to pass this much needed legislation as soon as possible.  By calling 217-782-2000 the state directory operators will be able to connect you to your legislators’ offices.  Please let us know what responses you get from these lawmakers.  If you can setup an appointment to meet with them in person that is even better.

In the previous session, similar legislation was approved by the Senate but was narrowly defeated by the House.

Fifteen states — Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington —  and the District of Columbia have enacted laws protecting medical cannabis patients from state prosecution. There is no legitimate reason why Illinois patients should not enjoy these same legal protections.

Contact your state House member and tell them to support HB 30 by visiting NORML’s ‘Take Action’ Center here:

A quick update about the Illinois NORML Lobby Day in Springfield yesterday, April 13th.  We had a chance to meet and discuss HB 30, the current version of the Medical Cannabis bill, with several State Representatives, as well as many other people touring the Capitol.  We also watched as the bill was also further amended on the floor, bringing it to the stage (known officially as “3rd Reading”) where it is now poised to be called and voted upon by the full House after a final debate.  If you’d like to follow the live video feed of the House to watch and see if HB 30 is called for a vote, check out this link:

http://www.ilga.gov/house/audvid.asp

It’s also not too late to make a difference, if you have a few minutes to spare.  Please call your State Representative to ask them to support HB30, and make sure to let them know that you support IL NORML and thank them for taking the time to listen to your concerns.  If you’re not sure who your State Rep is, check this website to find out:

Once you find their name and district, you can look up their contact info here:

Thanks for all your continued support of Illinois NORML and cannabis regulation reform!

Illinois NORML Weekly Email – Wed Apr 13 Lobby Day Reminder!

Just a quick reminder to everyone that IL NORML is holding another Lobby Day in the Capitol building in Springfield tomorrow, Wed. Apr 13, beginning at 8AM.  These lobby days are our opportunity to show the State Assembly, as well as the rest of the general public touring the capitol, that we’re serious about cannabis regulation reform in general and the medical cannabis bills in particular (HB 30 and SB 1548) and to better educate everyone about the issues.  The more people that can attend the better, and please remember to dress and act professionally to help get our message across more clearly.  Thanks to everyone that can make it in advance and please let me know if you have any questions about the day.

Lies! Lies, Lies ! On Senate Bill 1619

“Fight the lies!” was State Senator Heather Steans’ challenge to supporters of responsible, medically accurate sexual health education in public schools who gathered in Springfield last week.

Opponents of Senate Bill 1619, the Illinois Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) Act, have been spreading numerous lies about this critical legislation:

  • LIE: SB 1619 teaches kids “the “how to’s” of sexual activity”
SB 1619 provides that if an elementary or secondary public school offers sex education or sexual health education courses, the programs must be medically accurate and developmentally and age appropriate. Further, programs MUST include the benefits of delaying or abstaining from sexual activity. Fight the Lies: Take Action!
  • LIE: Abstinence-only education works
Research demonstrates that high-quality, accurate information enables teens to make healthy and responsible decisions about all aspects of their sexual health – decisions that help teens today and throughout their lifetimes. According to research at Columbia University, recent declines in teen pregnancy, for example, have been linked to better contraceptive use. Fight the Lies: Take Action!
  • LIE: SB 1619 would lead to teaching first graders about masturbation
SB 1619 applies only to public school students in grades 6-12. It stresses that sexual health education programs must be developmentally and age appropriate, and it gives schools the flexibility to choose their own curricula, amongst numerous available programs that meet those standards. SB 1619 ensures that students get the information they need to make responsible, healthy decisions. Fight the Lies: Take Action!

Illinois public schools are not currently required to teach medically accurate sexual health education – and many don’t. Help us ensure Illinois students get the infomation they need to make healthy, responsible decisions. Take action today!

Sincerely,
Colleen K. Connell
